Breaking News: India's Stunning Decision Puts Asia Cup 2023 at Risk - JKSA

BCCI Unlikely to Approve PCB’s Hybrid Model for Asia Cup 2023; Decision Pending: Reports

The hosting rights for the 2023 Asia Cup remain in dispute as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly stated that India will not be traveling to Pakistan. While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed a hybrid model, featuring matches in both Pakistan and another country like the UAE, the BCCI is expected to reject this approach due to logistical challenges faced by broadcasters and concerns regarding gate receipts.

The issue of where the 2023 Asia Cup will be held continues to create a deadlock as the BCCI maintains its stance on not playing in Pakistan. The PCB suggested a hybrid model for the tournament, which would include four group stage matches and two super four matches in Pakistan. However, recent reports suggest that the BCCI is unlikely to agree to such a proposal, as per the Press Trust of India (PTI).

While the cricket boards of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have not raised any objections to the hybrid model thus far, it has been revealed that Jay Shah, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman and BCCI secretary, conveyed India’s position during an informal meeting with board members on the sidelines of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Final held in Ahmedabad.

The standoff between the BCCI and the PCB regarding the hosting rights for the 2023 Asia Cup has yet to reach a resolution. Both boards will need to engage in further discussions and negotiations to find a mutually agreeable solution. Until then, the fate of the tournament remains uncertain, with cricket fans eagerly awaiting a final decision on its location.
